Why a picks list
260+ entries is overwhelming. Picks are “if you only try a few, start here.”
The list changes slowly — fewer surprises, less chase-the-hype.
Three rules
Official site works and onboarding is real — not vaporware.
Someone on the maintainer side used it in the last three months.
Clear use case: coding, video, notes, agents, etc.
What it is not
Not a download chart or VC buzz list. Duplicates stay out even if both are famous.
No sponsored slots in picks today; if that ever changes, it will be labeled separately.

How often the list changes
No fixed calendar — roughly quarterly we check if newcomers are stable and old picks are still maintained.
A big v1 launch might get a guide mention before it enters picks; I still want two weeks of real use first.
